The modern architecture design of the PETRONAS Twin Towers has greatly influenced the design of tall buildings globally whilst being an icon for Kuala Lumpur. This stature has earned PETRONAS Twin Towers a place among the Top 50 Most Influential Tall Buildings of the past 50 Years by the Council of Tall Building and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). This esteemed accolade is testament to the PETRONAS Twin Towers’ great influence and impact to the society and skyscrapers industry at large creating social and economic values to the people and the nation.
The recognition of the Top 50 Most Influential Tall Buildings of the Past 50 Years is in conjunction with CTBUH 50th Anniversary. The buildings are evaluated based on the same criteria, through the combined input of the CTBUH Research and Data team, CTBUH Leaders, and a call to the member constituency at large. Other tall buildings that received this recognition are Burj Khalifa (Dubai), 4 Times Square; formerly Conde Nast Building (New York), Lotte World Tower (Seoul) and Marina Bay Sands (Singapore).
